Consumers have a lot of different options to choose from when it comes to internet service, but understanding all these different choices is often easier said than done. Selecting the right internet provider can be confusing, and it’s even more overwhelming for consumers who don’t know much about internet service to begin with. With this in mind, it’s a good idea to learn a little bit more about some common internet services to help you understand your choices. Keep reading to learn about satellite internet connections and HughesNet in San Bernardino County!

What is satellite internet?

Satellite internet is a wireless internet connection that offers a reliable alternative to other options. While satellite internet is most commonly used in rural areas with limited access to other internet providers, lots of people choose satellite internet over other options because of its many benefits.

Satellite internet relies on three separate satellite dishes that work together to create a reliable internet connection. These three satellites are positioned with one at your internet service provider’s hub, one on your property and one in outer space. In addition to the satellite dish on your property, you also need modems and cables to connect your satellite and establish your connection to the internet.

HughesNet satellite internet

HughesNet is one of the most popular satellite internet providers. HughesNet offers internet services for homeowners and businesses alike, with a wide range of connections that can accommodate different levels of demand. Here are the steps involved in making a satellite internet connection with HughesNet in San Bernardino County:

  • Initial request: When you navigate to a web page or open a browser on your device, a signal is sent to the satellite in space. This satellite is located about 22,000 miles away from the home satellite, but the signal is sent almost instantaneously.
  • Message sent to HughesNet satellite: After the signal reaches the satellite, a request is sent to the HughesNet satellite at the Hughes Network Operations Center. Once the signal reaches the HughesNet satellite, the Operations Center finds the specific webpage you entered on your device to fulfill the request.
  • Request fulfilled: Once the Operations Center finds the webpage to fulfill the request, it sends the information back to the satellite in space, then beams it to the home satellite and then to the device that’s being used to access the internet. While this might seem like a lot of steps, the entire process takes only a fraction of a second to complete.
